The Zambezi

The Zambezi is the fourth longest river in Africa & the largest African river flowing into the Indian Ocean. The river rises in Zambia and flows through eastern Angola, along the border of Namibia & Botswana then along the border between Zimbabwe & Zambia, where it crosses the country and empties into the Indian Ocean.
The river supports a huge wildlife population. Hippopotamuses, Nile crocodiles as well as the bull shark (sometimes know as the Zambezi shark) can be found in the waters along with several hundred species of fish. Along the ravine, the woodland also supports many large animals such as zebras, giraffes, buffalo & elephants.
The Zambezi's most noted feature is Victoria Falls, one of the worlds largest waterfalls. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and can be experienced from either the Zambian or Zimbabwean side, each side offering unique views and activities. It is more locally known as "Mosi-oa-Tunya" which means "The Smoke which Thunders" due to its immense spray and spectacular views.
